No TV Fat Tuesday!

So I said I would do something cool this No TV Tuesday....but Tuesday arrived rather quickly and I had planned nothing to do. Oops! Luckily yesterday my Grandma had asked if we all wanted to come over for dinner so we did. Little did we know she was throwing a Mardi Gras Party just for us!

We had beignet's (a desert kind of bread), Jambalaya!, and even King Cake complete with a baby baked inside! She had beads, dabloons, masks, and even a sparkle for our faces which is apparently another tradition. We spent the night listening to Jazz music and watching Odin play with the Mardi Gras Decorations.

It was a pretty good night to skip TV I tell ya!

Our Valentines No TV Tuesday was....less than exciting. I had two crabby family members who were deciding Valentines day is a good day to be extra crabby. We did make it through the night without the TV on, although it was very tempting to do something other than stare at everyone's crabby faces all night long.

We did however do the following:
*We finished a Valentine craft that Odin painted with his hands feet and butt.
*We did a little photo shoot with Odin & Chaco
*Read some books
*took a little nap
*Ran a few errands in the afternoon.

We did end up having a terrific Valentines Breakfast Dinner at my parents house last night. It was a great way to celebrate Odin's First Valentines Day! (And...Odin & Dad were not crabby!!)

Next Tuesday I am going to do something really cool so that I actually have something interesting to write on here. :-) But I do feel good about successfully cutting out quite a few extra hours of TV every week!

Tomorrow is Tuesday!

No TV tomorrow! It has already been a week, but I have noticed just this week that we have been watching less tv! It makes it easier with such a handsome family to look at :-)

Tomorrow is Valentines Day so here is what we are planning on doing while we are NOT watching TV!
(We are having Valentines Breakfast-Dinner Wednesday night at my Parents house to celebrate with my side of the family)

*Finishing our Valentines crafts (Run some errands to help finish them)
*1st Valentines day photo shoot with Odin to celebrate his 1st Valentines Day!
*Read some Hunger Games
*Work a bit (not fun or memorable, but it has to get done)
*.........

Our first No TV Tuesday! Here are some of the great things we did today! Be patient as I figure out what to post and what to leave out. Since making lists is one of my favorite past times I might go overboard at first. Some of the things are really basic, but I am actually in the moment while these things are happening instead of my mind being pulled in many directions

*Target run (not like this is something I never do)

*$2 Medium drink at caribou!
*Did some reading of the 2nd book of the Hunger Games
*Odin played in his bouncy chair (the only thing he likes to do these days)
*Did the dishes, and tried to repair the dishwasher that has been on the fritz for weeks. We will know tomorrow if I was successful!
*Listened to some music with Odin (Dan seals greatest hits, Bear Naked Ladies, and Britney Spears) Nice mix huh?
*Odin took a nice nap, while I blogged.
*Odin, Chaco, and I sat in front of the window and watched people walk by on the path while we read books. Then we built towers out of blocks and knocked them over again and again!
*Went over to Grandma & Grandpa's to see them and Auntie Brooke!
*Jeremy and I spent the rest of the evening hanging out listening to some tunes and reading.

All in all it was a pretty successful first day without TV. Hopefully I will be able to use this day as a jumping off point to try to remember that the TV does not always have to be on during the rest of the week. I told Jeremy to stop downloading some shows that I really don't care very much about so there is less to watch in the first place. A lot of the stuff I have been watching is garbage anyway!

You can do it too!!

No TV Tuesdays

We watch TV. A lot. I like it. I like to shut my mind off but unfortunately along with having a baby it has been making my brain mush. I keep it on just for background noise a lot of the time. Yesterday I decided that enough is enough. It is embarrassing that I have no self control over how much I watch and my husband is so good at just turning it off. He could go without TV no problem. He at least got me to stop watching TV in bed years ago. I think back to how beneficial it has been for us and our sleep patterns. :-)

So I told him yesterday that I am starting No TV Tuesdays. He was all about it because it means more face time with his lovely wife :-). I am going to start posting about what we end up doing on No TV Tuesdays. No matter how boring it is :-) My goal is to get a few people to do it along with me! Maybe Tuesday is not a good day to go TV-less, but how about "without TV Wednesday" or "Forget about TV Fridays" It would be nice to look back on my best years and remember the great things that we did instead of the great TV shows we watched.

We can even brag it up, because that is what blogging is all about anyway! If you write about how fantastic your day was at the very least you can look back and see that the time was not wasted and maybe you will end up remembering it a little sweeter than it was!

So get on the ban wagon people!! It will be fun I promise!

If you want to comment with what you did...or link a blog post up to what you did I would love it!
